What's in the Bible DVD series by Phil Vischer (With Giveaway!)

What's In The Bible

What’s in the Bible?
What’s in the Bible? is a new DVD series from VeggieTales creator Phil Vischer designed to walk kids and families through the entire Bible. The 13 DVD-series will release beginning March 1, 2010.

Phil Vischer and Jellyfish Labs

In 1990, 24-year-old computer-animator Phil Vischer sat down to create a group of characters that could teach Christian values to kids in a delightfully different way. A tomato named Bob and a cucumber named Larry were born. VeggieTales would go on to revolutionize Christian filmmaking, selling more than 50 million videos and placing Phil’s faith-filled stories in one in every three American households with young children. Phil continues to pursue innovative new ways to integrate faith and storytelling through his new company, Jellyfish Labs. His projects include Jelly Telly, which provides faith-based daily programming via the internet at JellyTelly.com

"65% of kids are dropping out of church as soon as they graduate from high school, we need to do something about this."                                                                                   -Phil Vischer

Do You Know What’s in the Bible?

Who translated the Vulgate?
What IS the Vulgate?
Can you name Noah’s 3 sons? What about Noah’s wife?
What does “Genesis” mean?
How many books are in the New Testament? The Old? Both?
Did the answers to those questions pop into your head as soon as you read them? Did you have to stop and think? Did you know all? Some? None?
What’s in the Bible? aims to confront the growing crisis of Bible illiteracy within the Church. It’s more than a DVD series; it’s a movement aimed at our children and their families, at churches and pastors … at Christians who know Bible stories, but may not know all that much about the Bible itself.
MY REVIEW
I was given the opportunity by Tyndale Publishers to review the new DVD series. I was sent the newly available DVD's 1 & 2. The package came in the mail, I gather my kids and we popped some popcorn.
I was very pleased with the content Phil and the Jellyfish team has included in this series. The characters are fun and in the words on my six-year-old, "they are puppets?!" She wasn't sure if she liked the fact that they were puppets, for some strange reason she thought the she was too old to watch a 'puppet show'. I think she was expecting dancing vegetables because I told her that the same guy who made Veggie Tales, made this DVD series too. So maybe that was my bad!
After viewing What's in the Bible, I questioned my kids on the things that Buck Denver and his friends shared. They remembered most of the answers. My five year old son sat amazed at the fact of learning the why behind God flooding the earth. Many kids miss the fact that the earth had gotten so bad that God decided to start over. They know that Noah built a big boat and filled it to the rim with lots of animals, but they forget to mention why all that had to happen.

Having the different characters that 'specialize' in different parts of teaching, e.i. Sunday School Lady sharing about what is actually in the Bible, Chuck Wagon singing the catchy tunes, the Pastor who helps us define the 'big' words, even Phil in the fresh keeping them all on track and giving us Bible facts.
I was very impressed with the first 2 DVDs in the series and I look forward to seeing the rest of them!
I'd love to see Phil have some downloads available as worksheets and coloring pages to go with each DVD. I'd love to incorporate this into our Bible Class in our homeschooling. I know many church will use this as a Sunday School tool, so to have some free downloads to go with it would be awesome.
I am very excited for the remainder of the series and to see Phil succeed in his new project. Hats off to Phil for getting back to the basics of God's original plan for him. When we are faithful, we are blessed!
Here you can download some fun coloring pages of the new characters who will be walking your kids through the Bible!

The Daniel Fast by Susan Gregory

Cover Image

Product Description
What if you could grow closer to God and improve your health in just 21 days? Susan Gregory, “The Daniel Fast Blogger,” has a plan to help you do just that. Widely recognized as the expert on this 21-day fast inspired by the book of Daniel, Susan has helped thousands of people discover a safe and healthy way to fast. The principles you learn from The Daniel Fast will change the way you view food, your body, and your relationship with the one who created you.

About the Fast
The blurb was taken from www.daniel-fast.com, the author's website.

The Bible teaches us that we are a spirit, we have a soul and we live in a body. The Daniel Fast affects all three parts of us as we enter into a period of time for focused prayer and fasting.

The Body - Certainly our bodies are effected as our diet is changed, for some in very dramatic ways, during the Daniel Fast. Many men and women experience detoxing from caffeine, chemicals and sugar. The symptoms are most often headaches, leg cramps, fatigue and malaise.

Most people lose weight during the Daniel Fast. And many report healings from diabetes, allergies, arthritis and cancer.

The Soul - Frequently referred to as "the flesh" in the Bible, the soul is also greatly impacted during the Daniel Fast. The soul is the seat of our emotions, intellect, personality and will. It is in the "soulish realm" where we experience cravings, frustration, anger . . . and even happiness.

During the Daniel Fast, your soul may very well rebel against the dramatic change in your diet. Experiencing and winning this battle over the flesh is often one of the most powerful lessons of the Daniel Fast.

The Spirit - Our spirit is that born-again part of us that surrenders to God and then abides with the Father and the Son. Our spirit is filled with the Holy Spirit when we yield to Him. During the Daniel Fast, we want to put our spirit in charge of the other two parts of us. When our flesh is acting out with a craving, we take control of it with our spirit (just as a parent takes control of a rebellious child).

Fasting is always coupled with a spiritual goal. So during this time of fasting, you will want to focus on prayer, study and meditation.

MY REVIEW
I have never heard of this fast before, though I have used other fasting books in the past. As I read this book I was challenged and I am now preparing myself to participate in the Daniel Fast.

I really like how she has this book set up; the first part tells you the logistics of the book, why this fast is good and the biblical basis behind it. In the second part of the book she includes many recipes, the food list and tips to staying on track. The last part of the book includes 21 devotionals, one for each day if you feel led to participate in the 21 day fast.

I visited Susan's blog and was very encouraged and challenged. If you want to know God deeper, than pick up Susan's book and prepare your heart to take the challenge of this 21 day fast.

My Review

As a mother to 5 young kids (ages 7 and under) I've been in search of a great devotional for my kids. Having two toddlers, I took the opportunity to review The One Year Devotions for Preschoolers 2 immediately when it was offered.

What an awesome devotional! The One Year Devotions for Preschoolers 2 has a devotion for each day of the year. So you can start anytime of the year and not miss a thing!

Each devotion is short, sweet and to the point. Kids at this age need to hear and be taught the word of God, but their attention span is still so short.

The way that Barnhill has written so that even the little member of your family can begin to understand God's word is amazing. She can bring the devotion to a scripture focus in a few short paragraphs and the pictures go perfectly and are beautiful.

This is a great devotional for little ones. The perfect gift for a baby shower or for a first birthday! It's a gift that will continue to give for years! I would have loved to receive this and will surely gift this to others!
