ABOUT ADVENTURES IN ODYESSEY
Adventures in Odyssey, commonly abbreviated AIO or simply Odyssey, is an Evangelical Christian-themed radio drama/comedy series created by Phil Lollar and Steve Harris for Focus on the Family in 1987.

 MY REVIEW

Any parent can't go wrong with Adventures in Odyssey. Visiting Witt's End was something I started doing after becoming a Christian at age 12. And now, having the privilege to join my kids in new adventures is a blast!

I love the audio versions of the stories, because it allows my kids to use their minds instead of being glued to the TV. I also love the fact that I don't have to worry about what they hear because i know that Focus on the Family is dedicated to bringing great clean, family friendly entertainment to us.

The lessons that Take It From the Top teaches are timeless.

My favorite episode on #51 Take it From the Top is "Clutter" where the Parker family de-clutters and learns in the process that we are to store our treasures up in heaven!

Any album of Adventures of Odyssey makes a great gift for any kids. I know we love to enjoy ours in the car while running errands around town!

MY REVIEW
Here is a little secret, but promise not to tell anyone, do you promise? Okay, here it is... this is the very first Max Lucado book I've ever read. Yep, it's true, many of them are in my home library but I've never read any of them.

So, being a *NEW* fan of Lucado I can honestly say WOW!

I've always thought about living a legacy, one like my grandma left for everyone to remember. One that makes you want a deeper faith. One that makes you want to know the God that she knew in the depth that she did. One that is worth remembering.

Lucado has included some real ways that real people can live a mark for God on this world for future generations to remember. Making a difference in the lives of those you and know and those you don't.

I enjoyed Lucado's word pictures. His writing reminds me of the parables that Jesus used to teach the crowds, so visual.

I'm a new Lucado fan, luckily for me I own many of his books already!

Happy Reading!

Susie photo_color_sm

Susie Hobson has a B.A. in Special Education, M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling from Alabama University, and carried a deaf / hearing-impaired and blind / vision-impaired caseload for 16 years. She retired for more time with family and to write as God has called her. She and her husband Rich have two daughters, Whitney and Amelia, live in Montgomery, and attend Lakeview Baptist Church.

MY REVIEW

The greatest commandment: Love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. Just reading that command can make your heart skip a beat. How can any one do that? In her book, Susie reminds us that spending time with God is an important part of loving Him with all our heart. Just as we know the people that we love the most on this earth (spouse, children, best friends, etc.). It is no different in loving God, we must know Him.

Loving God with All Your Heart is an easy and encouraging read with practical advice. Though we as Christians know that God wants to know us and wants us to know Him, Susie's book is that encouraging reminder of what happens when we engulf ourselves in knowing God.

This is an excellent encouraging book to gift a friend who might be traveling down a bumpy road, or just needs a little reminder of God's love.

Heaven and Hell: the Journey of Chris and Serena Davis by Kenneth Zeigler

Cover Image

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Chris and Serena Davis held hands as they walked toward the portal, leaving the twisted wreck of their car—and their bodies—behind. Then they parted. Chris walks into the presence of God and an endless existence of love and contentment. Serena is tossed into the depths of Hell where she faces an eternal life of pain and hopelessness. Through God's mercy, those who dwell in Heaven have no recollection of loved ones in Hell—except Chris. He could not, would not, let her go, even though he realized that his loving wife had been given an eternal life sentence in Hell. Serena remembers Chris as well. In fact, it is part of Hell to remember and long for loved ones. What Serena sees and experiences in Hell makes her yearn for the love of her husband—and for the God she didn't accept. But there is hope—a faint hope that Chris and Serena can be together again. Serena's fate is in Chris's hands. Can he bridge the chasm that separates their realms before she is lost forever to Satan and the sea of fire? Can true love change the eternal plan of God? Can a man step into the depths of hell and save his beloved?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Ken Zeigler, 54, is the author of the Tears of heaven series. He's been writing stories since junior high school;  science  fiction  short  stories mostly.  He attended Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.  He openly profess Jesus Christ to be my personal Lord and Savior.

It wasn't always that way.  The change in his life came about  as  the result of  a  near death experience when he was eighteen years old. The circumstances of that experience were so remarkable that his life hasn't been the same since.

MY REVIEW
Talk about a roller coaster ride!

I've been to heaven, hell and everywhere in between with this novel by Zeigler! What a ride!

Zeigler has a great writing style that brought depth and life to his characters, especially the two main characters; husband and wife, Serena and Chris Davis.

Though I personally do not believe that all of this can happen, its a novel so I won't nit-pick at that. I'll just stick to the writing, the idea and the originality of the book.

Zeigler had me guessing up to the very end. His twists and turns and wild ride had my mind whirling around the possible outcomes.

This is a journey that was worth the time, as this is a thick book, 554 pages.

This is the first book in the Tears of heaven series. I look forward to reading more by Kenneth Zeigler.

 MY REVIEW

You know, I secretly wish that I had been born in the Little House on the Prairie times... simple clothes, simple house, simple life. No car problems, broken TVs or crashing computers. No telephone ringing off the hook or repair man to wait for. You know, the simple life!

Joanne has offered simple solutions to helping you (and me) live a simple life. As I read through her book I realized that I do live a pretty simple life. Partially because for the past eight years we've been a one income family; so though not by choice always, we lived a simple life in material possessions, thus helping us live a simple life in life, time and celebration. I am in no way saying that we lived poor, but we did have our times were we went without lots of extras just to have food on the table and a roof over our heads, even to going without a vehicle for over a year.

Talk about a simple life. But honestly it was nice.

Now that God has moved my husband into bigger and better higher paying positions we still live simple.
Why? you ask.
Why change a good thing?

I like not celebrating every birthday of my kids with a huge party, house full of two dozen kids and a sheet cake that more ends up on the floor than in the kids' mouths. (We celebrate every 5th birthday with a BIG party, other than that it's a nice quiet night doing the activity of the birthday person's choice.)

I enjoy making memorable home made gifts for friends and family for Christmas presents, instead of taking out a loan to pay for them.

I love being able to have time with my family after dinner instead of running child #1 to soccer practice, while hubby runs child #2 to dance and child #3 carpools to swimming lessons.

I like my simple life and Joanne has hit so close to home with many of her points including this one that can be found on page 45:

Living simply involves changing our thinking, looking at our lives from a  different perspective. It means stopping to ask myself why I am doing something and making choices that reflect my purpose.

Below are some questions I've heard one point in time or another:
So why don't each of your kids have an extracurricular activity scheduled year around? Why don't you cook big meals every night? Why don't you have decor on every wall of your house? Why are you a one vehicle family? Why do you only own one TV? Why do you make your family come to the table instead of allowing them to take their plate and plop a seat in front of the TV?
The answer for me is simple and this is how I answer them:
I feel that I am living the way I feel Jesus has lead me and this is the way I feel he has me to raise my kids.

A question that Joanne asks in her book is one that I want to ask you readers:
What makes your life complicated?

If I had to say what makes my life complicated, I'd have to think for a long time... because I am blessed to say that my life isn't complicated. For me I feel that I have chosen to include those things that important to God to make important in my life and thus I feel confident in knowing that all that is on my plate is what God has allowed me time, energy and room for.

I am not saying that I never have a day that I wonder if God is ready to allow me to send my kids to school away from home. Or wondering if this or that can be set aside for now, or for forever. But for the most part my life is not full of stress or worry or chaos or crying or complaining or frustration... I feel that I have chosen many roads that have helped me to be Living Simply, just as Joanne Heim has suggested.

 MY REVIEW

WOW!!  What writer can compare to Max Lucado?

This is the first book I have read of Lucado, though I have heard sermons and read tidbits and quotes of his, I had never read a full book of his... why did I wait so long?

God has given him a great gift with words and anyone who has not read anything by him needs to! You will walk away challenged and refreshed.
